Welcome! I’m so excited for us to go through Muslims, Christians, and Jesus together! We will learn about how to better love and understand Muslims so that we can reach them for Jesus Christ. But before we begin, I want to emphasize something that the author, Carl Medearis, makes very clear in the introduction of his book.
Medearis tells us that “The trouble with having a common enemy of bad guys to fear and hate is that we tend to stereotype all Muslims... When we stereotype, we don’t see people--just images of people. The truth is that Muslims are moms and dads and soccer players and entrepreneurs and young ladies in wedding gowns...they are normal people, like the rest of us. People that God loves...The problem with the war on terrorism is that it can put us on the defensive. God is looking for people who will go on a grace offensive, people who forgive and reach out in love.”
As I write these articles for you all, and as we learn about Islam and how to reach Muslims, I want us all to remember that if it is not done in love, it should not be done at all. Period. Above all else we must pray for a heart that genuinely loves the Muslim people, for it is then that we can truly show them who Christ is. He is love.
Paul tells us in 1 Corinthians 13: 1-3 that “If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. And if I have prophetic powers, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. If I give away all I have, and if I deliver up my body to be burned, but have not love, I gain nothing.”
This is something that Jesus has been reminding me of lately. We may be serving Him but are we serving in love? We may be reaching people but are we reaching them in love? It makes all the difference. Literally. It is the key factor that distinguishes Jesus, the one true God, from Allah as depicted in the Qur’an. Our God IS love, and if we are to share Him with others, we must share love.
Are you ready?
